Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a fairy tale as a story in which improbable events lead to a happy ending. We often hear the words “and they lived happily ever” after a season of chaos and mishaps for the main character. Their life appeared that it was going straight to the bottom when all of the sudden Prince Charming appears with a kiss or just the right slipper. Tears have been transformed into lifelong smiles. Pain has been changed into joy.
I have always been a fan of fairy tales because I enjoy seeing the person who appears to be at the bottom come out on top. My favorite fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast. It makes me all giddy inside when the Lumíere invites me to “Be Our Guest”! I enjoy seeing the transformation of everyone in the story, including Belle. The life lesson that we find in fairy tales is that no matter how challenging life becomes, we can win if we just do not give up.
We should take the time to allow our children to enjoy the gift of fairy tales. The use of their imaginations will take them to enjoyable places that will bring them a lifetime of joy!
